SAMPLE POSITION PAPER
Position Paper Guidelines
A Position Paper is a
brief summary of a country's policy and interests concerning the topics. It
should contain a clear statement of the country’s position on the topic and
clear reasoning and also suggesting a plan of action concerning the issues
under consideration.
An important task for
you before the conference starts is to write Position Papers, one for each
agenda. In the Position Paper, you should shortly summarize the results of your
research. Each topic should be addressed briefly in a policy statement
representing the relevant views of your assigned country. You should also
include recommendations for action to be taken by your committee. Writing a
position paper is very important, since it helps you during the conference as a
starting point for discussion.
The Position Paper must
address the following four parts separately:
1. Country’s stand and
statistics regarding the agenda
2. Actions/Policy
Implementation by the country
3. Actions/Policy
Implementation by the UN/Other International Organization
4. Action/Policy
Recommendation.
A good Position Paper
must meet the following criteria:
- · Overall quality of writing, proper style, grammar etc.
- · Citation of relevant resolutions/documents
- · Consistency with the constraints of the UN
- · Analysis of issues; rather than reiteration of the Research Report
- Inovative recommendations for action of your committee to undertake
